Western Zone Senior Championships in Clovis California:

Richard Thornton

SRVA swam very well in Clovis for our Long Course Summer Target Meet the last week of July, 2023.  We swam really well with many best times and heat wins. The swimmers were especially good at closing races with great performances over the last half of each race.  We train for that and we pride ourselves in that. It is not an accident.  We took six men and two women and they did very well.

Highlights:

Ava Tseng's beautiful 100 back heat win and 1.5 second drop in time which is a pretty big drop for a 100. She also swam in the 200 Free Final Session.

Kyla Kelly's 100 Breast Silver Medal with a huge drop of close to ten seconds and her B Final win in the 400IM in an LTB of 5:09.

Nami Ranjbarsadeghi's Best time in the 50 and his 6-8 sec drop in the 400. He had great relay legs all weekend as well.

Jonas Co had best times in everything but both his 100 and 200 Brst qualified for the Canadian Olympic Trials and since he has dual citizenship, we will see where we go from there.

Arya Nimbalker had many great swims and had a few heat wins as well. 200 Back and 200 IM were each about 3-4 second drops in time,

Abir Bhatia had great IM's and  large drops for best times in the 200 and 400 IM. Abir swam in the Final Session in both.

Alex De Weese was spectacular in the Breaststrokes finishing 4th in the 100 dropping almost 3 seconds and getting a Silver Medal in the 200 with a huge last 50 that almost won him the race. His 200 dropped 4 seconds approximately and quliafied him for the USA Junior Nationals.

Overall, this group was very fun to coach this season.  They are students of the sport. They get along with each other very well and while we were not perfect, we were very good with some swims bordering on GREAT!
